Rules to follow

  • Mount tyres with the same exterior diameter (or slightly smaller)
  • The speedometer must not read below the actual speed. When travelling at 25 to 75 mph, the speedometer can read up to 10% more than the actual speed
  • Mount tyres with a load index equal to or greater than that of the original tyres
  • Mount tyres with a speed index equal to or greater than that of the original tyres (except for snow tyres. More information)
  • Check to see that rim width and diameter are suitable for the tyre
  • When using different front and rear tyre dimensions on SUVs and vehicles equiped with anti-lock and anti-slip systems (ABS, ASR), the distance travelled over one turn must be taken into account
  • Make sure that any dimension changes you plan to make do not pose mechanical problems (required space, extending beyond the vehicle body...)
  • strong>Check with the manufacturer, the garage, and your insurance company that the dimensions of the mounted tyres are approved for the use of your vehicle.

This tool shows most of the sizes of original tyres. The theoratical equivalent sizes are determined from the outside diametre with a height of -3% to +3% on the upper side of the flank.
