Winter car tyre test

Winter tyre or snow tyre?

Winter tyres, also incorrectly called snow tyres, offer greater safety in cold weather. Summer tyres do not provide sufficient adhesion during cold spells and their structure does not allow them to grip in snow, ice or mud.
Winter tyres are indicated by a snowflake on the tyre wall. The markings "M + S" and 3PMSF on certain tyres are also a guarantee of effectiveness on snowy ground.

When should you fit winter tyres?

Winter tyres should be fitted as soon as the temperature falls to seven degrees. Due to its composition, the rubber on snow tyres remains supple at low temperatures and provides much better adhesion. The structure of the winter tyre is designed to improve vehicle traction, particularly in snow. The structure comprises longitudinal and transverse grooves which are larger than those on normal tyres. The amount of rubber remaining on a winter tyre must be at least 4 mm. Adhesion properties are greatly reduced on snow if the depth is less than this. Which winter tyre should you buy? The winter tyres below have been tested and rated by Pneus Online customers.
